Christopher Garcia joins SKW as Director of K-12 Education

Christopher Garcia, Director of K-12 Education

July 1, 2017, Sacramento, CA — Stafford King Wiese Architects (SKW), an architecture and planning firm, is excited to announce Christopher Garcia, AIA, LEED Green Assoc., as the new Director of K-12 Education.

The diversity of building types found on a school campus inspired Christopher’s focus on educational architecture. Now, with more than 15-years of experience designing school projects of all sizes and complexities, Christopher’s passion for K-12 design and construction is stronger than ever.

Coming from a family of contractors and “growing-up” on a construction site, Christopher acquired a deep understanding of construction, materials, and assemblies. This knowledge translates into valuable contributions during the early design phases, as well as time and cost saving solutions in the field. Aging school facilities throughout California, provides the creative challenge of renovation and modernization projects. The opportunity to transform dated or unusable buildings into healthy and effective learning environments for many generations to come is very rewarding for Christopher.

As Director of K-12 Education, Christopher is responsible for: providing leadership on all K-12 projects, maintaining client communications, providing oversight management of project budgets, schedules and quality, developing new business, and mentoring junior team members. The design and construction of school facilities requires a level of coordination and input from all parties, and Christopher’s leadership style facilitates a team environment where creativity and innovation thrives, allowing him to make informed decisions and execute projects successfully.

At SKW, Christopher is currently focused on completing a new STEM classroom building at Sacramento City USD and multiple renovation/modernization projects for Twin Rivers USD.

Some of Christopher’s notable projects prior to joining SKW include: a campus-wide modernization with extensive site development in addition to the multi-purpose/administration building and a new two-story classroom building at Longfellow Spanish Immersion School for San Diego USD; and extensive work at Patrick Henry High School for San Diego USD including a 210,000 sq. ft. whole site modernization with a large interim housing element, complex phasing, a career tech education (CTE) component for engineering,  and a major modernization for new athletic facilities.  Christopher was also able to preserve the budget of the Estancia High School Aquatic Center for Newport-Mesa USD, by reusing and expanding the existing pool equipment room, resulting in substantial savings, to allow for the construction of a new 50-meter Myrtha pool.

Christopher is an active member of the American Institute of Architects, Coalition for Adequate School Housing, and the Association for Learning Environments. Additionally, Christopher is an accredited LEED Green Associate through the U.S. Green Building Council.
