Each dining commons on campus has a unique theme. This dining commons focuses on educating students about sustainable features of the building and encourages an understanding about sustainable food practices (where the food comes from and how it is prepared). The project included a complete reorganization of the building based on the concept of immersing students in the food preparation process. Individual platforms interspersed throughout the first floor highlight different cuisines. A circular pattern leads the student through the platform dining stations and up to seating areas on the second floor.
SKW performed as the Master Architect for this design-build project. We completed bridging documents in June 2008. The newly renovated facility opened to students in September 2010. The project’s completion concludes the University’s master plan for its dining commons while providing a unique opportunity for students to learn and grow.
